If At First You Don’t Succeed – Diffusing Your Failures (Part 2)

Maybe you tried and it just didn’t turn out the way that you planned. Could it be you have a different skill that would have been more effective? You have many things going for you. Always seek an alternative.

Plan B, C, D and E

What plans did you have to fall back on? Were you comfortable using them? How did they work? What were the results in terms of your overall goals?

What Did You Learn?

Failure makes it very easy to grow as a person, so don’t beat yourself up for not fulfilling your plans. You’ll have a second chance, and next time you’ll be more prepared for the challenge. You’ll have a better idea of your strengths and your weaknesses, of how what you do will create improvement.

Failure itself is an indispensable tool on the road to your self-confidence. It takes a lot of courage to try something new, and during the process you learn. You face your fears. You take a realistic look at your life. You do what you need to become a better person.

Go Back to the Drawing Board

When you evaluate your attempt, and how it went wrong, you’ll have a good idea of where to begin your next step. Maybe you found out along the way you weren’t after what you wanted. If that’s the case, go all the way back to the beginning. Maybe you just need to work harder on plan C before all will go well.

Buck up and Head out

This is no time for conserving energy. You’ve fallen down, now get back up. Maybe follow through on some baby steps, but keep your ball rolling. Now that you’ve moved past small successes don’t change your focus.

Self-confidence is a life long journey that doesn’t stop if you take a wrong turn. Study your map, plan your route, and get back out there before too long. By challenging ourselves, winning, even losing at times, we learn what we like and what works for us. It sets the stage for a long and happy life.
